St. Patrick’s Weekend Enforcement in Akron
St. Patrick’s Weekend Enforcement in Akron

AKRON, OH - Everyone is Irish on March 17th; however, not everyone is a designated driver.

As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, the Akron Police Department is reminding drivers not to get behind the wheel if they’ve been drinking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports over 700 people were killed nationwide in crashes involving a drunk driver during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday from 2006 to 2010.

The Akron Police Department will increase traffic enforcement with the upcoming weekend.  Officers will be targeting impaired drivers, speed and seat belt violations.

The high visibility enforcement efforts are funded by a grant awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration passed down through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office as part of the “Drive Sober or get Pulled Over” campaign.
